This Challenged Based Research Project explored the
potential use of Mobile Device Applications for Language Learning.
The challenge was to implement mobile device applications into weekly
assignments in a way that enhanced the learner experience and increased
motivation through personalization. The participants in this project were made
up of 18-24 year old students learning English as a Second Language.
Participants completed pre and post assessment surveys, video reflection
assignments, interviews, and quizzes. The existing literature reviewed and the
data collected during the project demonstrated increased learner participation
and retention both inside and outside of the classroom. The mobile earners
responded positively to the portable and personalized instruction and stayed
connected to other students in the language learning community.
